Public speaking

This is an intensive course designed to teach you the art of speaking. Language in context and brainstorming management, body language and audience engagement techniques are only some of the components you will work on, in order to be able to present your thoughts in front of small informal classes and clients or academic audiences. Stress management, breathing techniques and control of your voice are milestone components in this course, which runs over a one, three or six-week period and is ideal for university students, professors, researchers, professionals or teenage students who wish to develop their presentation skills in English.

The course will help you:

• Learn the natural speaking mechanisms of the brain with emphasis on second language acquisition
• Develop brainstorming techniques and free-association as means to create meaningful language
• Highlight key points with pausing, pacing and signposting
• Acquire awareness of stress, why it is there when you expose yourself to an audience and how to cope with it
• Learn about and practice diaphragmatic breathing
• Develop mindfulness to take control of your body and mind and define learning, communication and physical responses – properties which define who you are and how you appear to people
• Learn and practice Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) to avoid tension while delivering your speech
• Learn the basics of comparative methodology in order to interact with other speakers and offer meaningful feedback
• Talk with or without a script
• Use presentation slides and videos effectively

The course is taught in English and is available to adults and teens aged 16+ and for anyone interested in boosting speaking skills for English language examinations.
