What is OET?

The Occupational English Test (OET) is an international English language examination for healthcare professionals. It has been developed to ensure healthcare professionals adequate communication skills in an English-speaking workplace. The OET prompts healthcare professionals to develop substantial, strategic language skills for their daily encounters in an English-speaking work environment.

It utilizes real workplace scenarios, and is specially designed for 12 healthcare professions, including:

  • dentistry
  • dietetics
  • medicine
  • nursing
  • occupational therapy
  • optometry
  • pharmacy
  • physiotherapy
  • podiatry
  • radiography
  • speech pathology
  • veterinary science
How is the exam structured?

The OET is based on 4 basic language skills.

Listening and Reading (the test subjects, which are common for all healthcare professionals), and Writing and Speaking (specific to each profession) comprise the distinct parts of the examination.

OET is recognized globally by Government Departments, Healthcare Bodies and Councils and universities in the UK, the USA, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Singapore, Qatar and many other European and international nations.
